Possible CS4 price drop after CS5 release?

And would the price drop go into effect immediatly or would I have to wait a while?

Or does Adobe just pull old versions of their products from sites like B&H after new versions come out?

Thanks

Software isn't like hardware. The actual production cost of a few bits of paper and DVD or two is nowhere near the the price it sells for, so software developers usually just pull the plug, almost instantly. They often allow special price upgrades for those souls who shelled out a fortune on a product superceded just a month or two after they bought it. This kind of offer is the only one normally available. Once the new one is out, it's simply pointless doing deals on the old stock - their entire sales push is on the new one. For hardware, that actually has a real 'value' it's different - it cost them to produce it, it cost the distributor who bought it - so hence the rebates and good end of line prices. For software, there's simply no need.

It kinda depends. Adobe always does those deals if you buy the old version within a certain time period before and after the release of the new suites. And there's a chance that CS5 will cost more than the current going price for CS4.

So although there might not be a price drop, there will probably be a quick run on CS4 if the CS5 price goes up (as I am suspecting it will).

Couldn't tell you about Tiger...I do know that on the Windows side, CS5 is built around Windows 7 and is 64 bit only on all platforms. It will probably only really work well on the newest OS at the time of release. Upgrades beyond that will likely yield problems, systems before that will be a risk unless it is specifically listed as "supported" on the box.

Thanks.

I guess if I want CS4 I should buy it now. I don't know if CS5 will be compatible with Tiger.
Adobe announced a while back that they are dropping support for Tiger, it annoyed a few people at the time :) but hey what ya gonna do :) I assume you are sticking to Tiger because you are running a non Intel Mac, if so then be aware that Adobe are not developing for anything other than Intel chips on the Mac side, I believe Photoshop and one or two apps wil stil work on a G5 but not for much longer.
