I am looking to make the move from Philadelphia out to Portland, OR sometime in the near future. I figured this board might be a way to see if I can make any contacts before I move, or set up some meet and greets for later in the summer when I drive out to explore before the move.
I have been doing PA work for the past 3 years mixed in with some 2nd AD and teleprompter jobs over the past year. Mainly commercial, but a reality show here and there of course. And I shot b-roll on a few home makeover shows with HVX. I am kind of trying to get the feel for the freelance world of Portland and if I will be able to survive but also exploring the possibility of going the 9-5 route at some sort of grip/camera/post house obviously starting at the bottom/entry level position.
A friend who moved from Portland mentioned GearHead Grip to me... that a friend is an owner or partner or something (gotta love text message conversations and all the wonderful detailed info they provide)... but I have not pursued contacting them yet.
Any info or advice that can be thrown my way would be greatly appreciated. I really want to live out there as they way of life seems to be much more up my alley... but if I can't find work there is no point in making the trek.
Thanks!
