Portable Power

I do a lot of highly mobile guerrilla style documentary work along with various sports videography. As a consequence if often find myself at a location with no accessible power yet I need lighting in order to get useful footage. What I'm currently looking at is grabbing a portable powerpack or two, the kind people take camping or use to boost cars and use those to run some low wattage lights.

Has anyone done this or have any pointers? I'll show you the sort of packs I'm looking at here .

Look at the battery capacity to decide if it's useful for you. I have one of those Booster Pacs, it'll drive a 250-watt light for half an hour and then it's totally empty. They're not bad for what they are, but you have to determine your intended usage and then match it up against the product in question to see if you'll get useful performance. If you are thinking of trying to drive two 650-watt lights off a battery pack, it's just not practical, it'll never happen. If you're instead talking about some 23-watt compact fluorescent chinese lanterns, well, sure, a booster pac can work for a few hours in a situation like that.
