Portable Power

I would like to have a portable power source that I can plug my production monitor into and bring around with me. I would like it to be rechargable and more managable than a generator.

I have been researching portable batteries but many of them use XLR power cords. I don't understand this, I just want one that can power a regular 3pin grounded outlet.

What do people suggest using for powering a production monitor or any 12v device in the field?

There are many portable, battery-powered AC power supplies on the market. Check a marine supply store. I have a Xantrex Power 300 (about the size of a lunchbox) and a Xantrex Power1500 (about the size of a roll-around car charger w/integrated 12V car battery). These things will run a small Tungsten light for hours. It will run your monitor all day.

I have to look into that......

How about 300w, 600w, light sets, Would those power sources work for these light kits or would a small generator be better?

Yes, deep cycle marine batteries are the way to go, much much cheaper than belt packs and the sort. They also last longer. Of course you need to have a 12v monitor and the connectors.

downside: lugging that heavy **** around; but that what PAs were invented for.
