Portable lightweight lighting

What options, besides Lowel, are there for lightweight portable kits?

I do a lot of travel on third-world airlines (ie: with goats and chickens) where space is limited, and any excess luggage beyond 15-20 kilograms is very heavily fined.

I'm in 220V land, and don't need battery power -- just rugged lights that pack away tightly and offer good light-control (ie: useful grip gear) for interviews. I use reflectors liberally for outdoor interviews, but need something for indoor/night interviews.

Lowel are almost perfect in this regard, but am wondering perhaps if there's anything else out there (perhaps a bit more sturdy). A thorough Googling didn't show much.

Any recommendations?

There's nothing as small as lowel, that's for sure. Lowel gear is tiny (although dense and heavy).

Mole makes some pretty small lights as well. But for small size and portability, Lowel is going to likely be the most varied supplier. Three pro-lights, stands and cords, could all fit in a very small case and probably weigh under 8 pounds.

The Lowell stuff is amazingly low price and pretty good stuff overall. As an alternative to lower priced options, the super-expensive ArriX 250W may be a good choice for a small profile and high output. It'll take a Chimera well, too. Maybe a small 2x2 KinoFlo fixture would be nice. Those are lightweight and look very soft and warm and weigh almost nothing, but I guess you'd have to figure in the weight of the ballast... which shouldn't be too heavy considering it's a two bank. Maybe a couple of small tungsten fresnals like Mole 200 or Arri 150 or MiniCool would be nice... well, in my book a small fixture or two for interviews is mandatory. I don't know what you would do about stands, though. The Lowell kit is all inclusive and a pretty good deal.. Just trying to present other options so you know what you're buying when you get a Lowell kit.
