Portable iPOD speakers...

...'tis the season...

My girlfriend has a 4th generation 20 gig iPOD... I am thinking about getting her a set of external speakers to dock her iPOD onto to listen to her music...

Anyone have any good suggestions? I know I could blow 300 dollars and get her a BOSE iPOD system but gimme a break. Thats just crazy money, and we all know it. So, I'd like a find a system that combines a fair balance of quality with reasonable price-point. I know that some of the lesser systems do not come with a remote nor do they charge the iPOD, but if the sound is very good, I'm sure it wouldnt affect her one iota.

Any input?

I have an Altec Lansing im7.

Great sound, not too expensive. Google it and read reviews....it's a solid choice.

Thanks for the link. I was just reading about that...not sure if it is compatible with her 4th gen 20gig. Its amazing how many dockable speakers are out there. What kills me is the BOSE. I mean, $300 dollars? Come on.

Yeah, the iM7 works with the 4th gen's. I will also vouch for those. Anything by Altec for that matter. I've never seen an iPod speaker set by them that didn't offer great sound at a decent price.

I'm also a big fan of Logitech, though I don't think the sound is quite as good.

Anyway, if you've got an Apple Store nearby, you can go check out everything they've got and be able to listen to all of them. They probably won't have the iM7 however. That's an older speaker set.

Anyway, good luck!

I got one on those iHome systems ($100) with a remote (extra $20), and while it doesn't sound anything like the Bose, it does crank out decent sound considering the price.

Thanks guys! I'm not an iPOD person. I dont own one. But the accessory list is overwhelming. Though, I am thinking of getting myself one to use at the gym...hmmm....

I don't care what special "technology" BOSE claims to have...they are WAY TOO FRIGGIN' expensive. 3 grand for a surround sound system? Give me a break. I spent $270 bucks for Logitechs and wired it up to my entertainment system...they sound fantastic. $3,000 vs. $270.00. Ahhh, yeah....
