Portable carrying case?

I hope this is the right forum.

So, I'm going to need to be hiking to some pretty remote locations to film some time lapse and scenery. Some locations are 15-20 miles in and are only accessible by foot.

My current camera case is very solid but weighs about 35 lbs with all the gear in it.

I'm looking for some kind of back pack type case. some thing that will protect my camera, but will allow me to trek around in the wilderness. I haven't been able to find anything online yet.

Anyone have any suggestions?

thanks.

Lets start by you telling us what kind of camera you have and what gear you intend to carry. Is it an HVX200, a 500? Big tripod? multiple lenses? Batteries?

Make a list of the gear you are carrying and maybe we can help you, but it's such a wide range.

I know Kata makes some great backpacks that my friends use. You will feel the weight of the camera and gear though its alot of weight on your back.

Egads! That's some hike!

Aside from camera gear you'll have to haul your own supplies as well, right? Food, water, shelter. Perhaps two days in and two days out.

I would suggest some sort of frame pack because your all-up weight is likely to exceed 50 pounds. Of course if you're going in and out via the same route you can cache provisions for your egress hike to cut the total weight carried all the way in.

OT: I visited Skagway just a few weeks ago and learned a bit about the Yukon gold rush. Would-be prospectors had to haul up to a half-ton of equipment and supplies up the White Pass trail, over the Canadian border, usually by taking several trips via a trail that was about 35 miles long. These guys really could have made good use of a 4WD pickup truck.
