I know of Firestore (still £800 in UK) and Dataquest make a unit (slightly cheaper) but what about all of these consumer devices coming out that storeshow video? Can any of these be adapted/ connectewd to the firewire socket on the DVX 100A? Anyone out there using such a set-up please let me / us know. Ta

If you mean just a plain firewire hard drive, it can't be connected except through a computer. The FireStore and the like have a processor in them that reads the control bits (or something like that) and start and stop recording when the camera does.
If you are talking about some sort of hard drive video recorder, without seeing what models your are talking about, I would have to say that it should work. I have heard of some that take analog video in and convert it to MPeg4 and record that. This would only be good for reviewing the footage (the quality is just not good enough).

David thanks for the reply. Apparently people are using nnovia, firestore and pyro portable hd systems. I'm looking longingly at HVX 200 and solid state storage now...
interesting name association Fairbanks & hollywood.
