I just got off a shoot that was very dusty and now must send the camera in for repair. Which of these will protect best against dust and weather?

Next question, how does adding a shoulder mount affect any of these choices? thanks

Matt Sconce and I built a fitting weather cover for his HVX and used it on a shoot for the movie SLEEPER that is in post production right now. I purchased a high quality rubber coated nylon raincoat and then cut it to fit the HVX. I attached a wet suit material mouse pad to the front for a rain/dust cowl over the front of the lens and placed a clear polypropolene section over the monitor side that extends out so the screen can be extended. I left a hatch under the back for a hand to rise up underneath to focus, zoom and reach the controls. I put the whole thing together with shoe goo that I let dry for 24hrs.

The cover works wonderfully and kept the expensive HVX completely dry on a shoot with pouring down rain and hosed in additional water for over 9 hours. It will keep out dust also.

You too can build one. Cost: around $10. :)

Would you mind to post a pic Gary?

Be happy to! It is at Matt's and I will ask him to take a few pics and email them to me. I'll try to post ASAP on this thread. :engel017: Don't buy a cover until you see this: It is really easy to build, works perfectly and was cheap. Silly thing is, I used the arm of the raincoat to make it and you actually could make two covers out of one coat. The clear plastic for the monitor side came from polypropolene quilt packaging. :D
