My short film is finished and we are about to create a DVD of it.

As part of the DVD we would like to offer a viewing option where fact about the film appear (pop-up) on the screen as the movie is playing.

I'm not sure how I should do this.

So I need to create a second version of the movie with this new video track? Or is this something I should be doing in DVD Studio Pro?

It is a short film, so I could probably fit more than one version on the DVD, but it doesn't seem like that is the right way to do it.

Any suggestions?

You could take a look at dealing with it as subtitles. Put info in text and set timings where it would appear.

I suspect you may need pro to do this but check the Apple boards or the iDVD manual for subtitles.
As you say you could lay it down twice since the user will have to make a selection anyway.

hmmm. . .are you trying to do the "pop-up" effect a la VH1 Pop Up Video? In that case, you can just do it in FCP, unless you want an option to turn pop-ups on and off, then yeah, you have to do it DVDSP.
