i just got a TREO 700w, phone Palmtop PC thing, and it has email retrieval functions. But it needs to know what POP client i am using for email. WTF does that mean?

is gmail a pop client?

An example of a POP client is Outlook Express. With POP clients, basically what happens is emails are transfered from the main email server to a local storage location each time you connect. So this means instead of using your web browser to check your gmail, you can use a program such as MS Outlook. (There are many freebies).

it's most likely asking for your pop settings (ie: mail.yoursite.com for receive, and smtp.yoursite.com for sending). That's how my 650 is setup at least.

If you go into your "settings" in gmail you can click on "Forwarding and POP" then in the "POP Download" section click on the radio button next to "Enable POP for all mail" and "Save Changes".

Then you can use the following settings for retrieving the mail:

POP (Incoming Mail): pop.gmail.com
SMTP (Outgoing Mail): smtp.gmail.com

There is also a "configuration instructions" link on the "POP and Forwarding" page which may have more info to help you set it up.

Hope this helps,
Larry

most of these e-mail servers have a pop client, so you can download you mails without visiting the on-line webpage
