Polyethylene Foam vs Ester Foam

Hey gang -

I'm getting some custom foam cut to cradle my HVXs in their pelican cases (the "pick and pluck" stuff is driving me nutso).

I have a choice of Ester Foam (which is the same material as "pick and pluck") or Polyethylene Foam which is more rigid, but also more durable (and slightly more expensive, but not enough for that to affect my opinion).

I'm leaning towards the Polyethylene Foam for it's durability, but I'm not sure if losing the shock absorbtion of the Ester Foam is a Bad Idea™.

Any opinions?

Thanks as always!

I would go with the ester foam for its gentler shock absorbtion (provided you leave enough material all the way around, approx. 2" I would guess).

I recently saw a case at Abelcine that used both ester foam and polyethylene together -- something like 80% was ester, and the top layer was poly. That would give you the best of both worlds.
