I use Gremlins and Nightmare Before Christmas as my transition films from October into November. Glad to see them mentioned. Especially Gremlins! I've always considered it a Christmas film.

My vote, however, goes to It's A Wonderful Life... no contest. :)

I gotta say my yuletide flicks are:
A Christmas Story, Nightmare Before Xmas, Xmas Vacation, Bells of St. Marys (my uncle was in it) and George C Scott's Carol.

I love the TNT 24 hours of A Christmas Story!!!!

I used to watch Gremlins every Xmas Eve waiting for midnight...

This is a Norman Rockwell painting brought masterfully to life by Frank Capra. Not only the hands down winner for best Christmas film IMO, but one of the best pictures of all time.

i love lil Timmy TIMMMMMY OH sorry i'm watching south park. my one and only; A CHRISTMAS CAROL! SCROOGED bill murray

C'mon, no one has mentioned the Ben Affleck masterpiece with James Gandolfini 'Stealing Christmas'.

I know it was only in theatres for seven minutes and made a whopping $8 (one ticket sold, J. Lo paid), but c'mon people. How many movies can you wipe your arse with and make the movie better in the process?

I'd have to say Home Alone I and II, and How The Grinch Stole Christmas (the original 1966 animated one) will always feel like Christmas. There's something about Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern slipping on ice thats still hilarious even today.

I go against my roots by not voting Nightmare... but I watch that move ALL THE TIME.

The one film that I only/ always watch during the Christmas season is Christmas Vacation. My folks got me started on National Lampoon when I was young, and it always feels like Christmas.

Anything but "The Polar Express".

The way that they treated some of the talent that worked on this film was deplorable.

I wasn't aware.

But, about that criteria for rating a film...
by using it, one would have to dismiss the films
of some of the greatest directors of all time:
Michael Curtiz,
John Ford

-and-
Hitchcock

just to name a few.

Regardless, when it is really young actors that are being exploiting and mistreating, I really have a problem with any effort that attempts to justify abusive behavior.

I dig A Christmas Story. Because its an "80's-Baby Boomer-Gordon Gecko-Greed is Good-Me Generation" flick disguised as a good 'ole days holiday story. Not only is the story all about this selfish kid who is thinking of nothing but himself (ratting out friends, leaves another friend stuck to a pole, leaves brother to die at the hands of bully, etc...) , but the gift he obsesses about is a gun! 80's in a nutshell baby! I think there's somethng about trickle-down economics and cocaine hidden in there too.

Strangely enough, Die Hard carries the better message. Here's a guy putting his life on the line for friends, family and building full of strangers. Not to mention the film made it easy to pitch sub-standard action movie rip-offs for years to come. (Die Hard on a plane. Die hard on a cruise ship. Die hard on a bus starring Keanu Reeves...)

I'm gonna put my vote to "A Christmas Story" because I just watched it on tv a couple of hours ago...also saw Scrooged and Christmas Vacation.

I like A Charlie Brown Christmas because sometimes my ADD kicks into high gear and things just need to wrap up quickly. But when all is well, my favorite is Christmas Vacation. Still makes me laugh out loud everytime.
