Hi Group,

We are coming out with a Push Auto Focus Remote to be attached to the left hand bar of the DvRigPro.

Will this be useful to you ?  ???

Re: POLL: Push Auto Remote? will you use one ?.

What about a real remote focus controller?! :-))

Re: POLL: Push Auto Remote? will you use one ?.

A "Real" Focus remote have to be relible, accurate, Simple to
install and should not cost more than your DV camera.

We have deeply looked into it, And decided not to do it now.

So what do you think of the Push Auto Remote ?

Re: POLL: Push Auto Remote? will you use one ?.

Tooo bad Panasonic won't let you control the focus servo through their "proprietary" LANC type remote. Damn those RATS!

Re: POLL: Push Auto Remote? will you use one ?.

How would a push auto remote be any different the full auto? Both require the same amount of frames to pass-through in order to adjust focus, if this is what your referring to.

Re: POLL: Push Auto Remote? will you use one ?.

Many DV users shoot with the Manual Focus and use the Push
Auto for momentarily go to Auto in order to re-focus for a new situation.

Many times it is easier to use the Push Auto, then try to adjust the focus ring that has endless turn, and is inconsistent.
The amount of ring turn depends on the Zoom situation.

Oh so this is the kind of push auto focus you're talking about. I can be the first one to tell you this will not sell. Not enough ppl are so incompetent when it comes to focusing that he/she would rather take the effort to switch in/out of progressive mode to get a quick auto focus. The delay when switching is just too much, and manual focusing is just not that difficult to warrant a purchase of this kind. I don't know where you find so many ppl that shot in the way you described.  I think inheriantly, the problem with all dual hand-grip shoulder mounts is that you loose zoom and focus control. Unless you also add zoom control to this device, it would not be worth the purchase. Not even for $20. But eithercase, this push auto focus should be cheap right? I mean all you'd need to do is attach a photographer's wired remote shutter release cable to a ring that clamps to the lens barrel and the end of the wire would be placed above the auto focus button, and when you push, it would press down the auto focus button.

Re: POLL: Push Auto Remote? will you use one ?.

I would have to say that little would be served by this type of momentary focus control. The only way this would really benefit would be if you had a way to "instantly" focus the DVX100 in 24p mode. I suppose if it were cheap enough, it wouldn't hurt to be on the rig, but I would presume this isn't exactly your intent -- Wouldn't be mine either ;D.

Can't disagree as I ordered the Zoe zoom control with mine. This combo however easily makes the DVX twice as controllable in handheld mode, maybe even more. Cost is significant though and had I not been in a position where this extra hand control was an absolute necessity, this money would for sure went into something else. I don't mean to say its not worth it, just to many, the cost will never allow them to put this fine rig on their shoulder.

Re: POLL: Push Auto Remote? will you use one ?.

agreed, i dont see the use for it. even after the explanation. the free spinning of the focus ring really makes no difference in accuracy or consistancy.

Re: POLL: Push Auto Remote? will you use one ?.

As I anticipated, The Push Auto Remote will be much more popular among the PD-150/170 Etc. users. The survey we made showed that more then 50% are switching constantly between manual and auto by operating the main focus switch,
The Push Auto bottom is just too flat and difficult to find.

Boogger, You do not have to use both DvRigPro handles and
you can take one off and / or reposition the other. It is very flexible.

And yes, a zoom / rec control is very usfull.

One more thing is the type of users, Lots and lots of Wedding
and event photographers use lcd , work with Auto Focus most of the time and are often getting out of focus in low light
or un-even changing lighting coditions, For them working manualy and operating the Remote Push Auto will be of great
help.

Re: POLL: Push Auto Remote? will you use one ?.

I'm not sure people are understanding what you're proposing.

I think it's a great idea.

It won't be of much use for DVX100 users, but for DVX100A users, it'll work in progressive and interlaced.

It is, I believe, a device designed to work with the DVRigPro, right? So when the camera is strapped in that rig, and you've got your hands full with handles, and you need a quick re-focus, sure it'd be nice to push that focus button and hold it until AF locks in. Then when you release the button you're back in manual-focus mode. Not a bad idea.

Re: POLL: Push Auto Remote? will you use one ?.

Well it would be if my left hand were on the grip when I'm in manual focus.

If I'm in manual focus, my left hand is on the focus ring just about all the time unless its a real static shot or shooting full infinity.

Actually, in manual focus my left forearm kinda rests on the outside bottom of the hand-grip and my little finger (and whatever the next 2 fingers are called) sort of touches/rest on the top of the sun screen, while my thumb and index finger (got that one ;D) hold the focus ring.  It is quite comfortable this way and because my forearm is leaning on the grip, I feel almost the same control as both hands on the grips.

If I shoot automatic then both hands are on the hand-grips, but I don't think anything would be gained by pressing an auto focus button while in auto focus mode ???

Full focus control on the left hand-grip would be awesome though.  So much so, we most likely will try and fabricate something over the next few weeks.  Have to look at the options we would have to do this, but seems likely we can do it.

Edit - I meant full infinity and said full zoom so had to change it.

You Got it Barry!

Yes, The idea is that you keep your hands on the DvRigPro
handle bars all the time.

Maybe if it will be called " Focus Grabber " it will be more clear ?
