I have been looking to get a lower cost 82mm polarizer for my HVX. I was looking at Tiffen and found that they have both a linear and a circular polarizer. Which one do I need. Can anyone else recommend a low cost alternative?
if you're talking about a difference of 50-100 bucks (which it is) i wouldn't go low budget...why try and save 50 bucks on a piece of glass that goes in front of a $5000 camera?? get a B+W circular pol...they rock
i'm exactly not sure the advantage of a linear, but with a circular you can rotate the glass to apply a greater degree of polarization to different parts of the frame (make the sky pop or cut thru water)
I was doing some research on this recently. Linear is apparently more for cameras with manual focus lenses such as professional film cameras etc. The circular basically does the same thing as linear but it also works better on your camera should you be using and autofocus lense. I got some generic off ebay for right now for my dvx, at some point will upgrade to a better quality.
That aside, If I read your question correctly there is SCHNEIDER or maybe Hoya (but I believe Schneider is better, not an expert on this one yet).
