Pocket cam DOF

In order for an adapter to work well you need to be able to set a precise focus for one....can any of these smaller cameras do this?

The Kodak Zi6 and Zi8 models have a "hidden" feature that allow for manual focus by making careful adjustments between the macro and infinity settings (or so I have read...I don't own one).

It seems that you could use a 35mm adapter with the pocket cam focused on the gg screen while in the macro setting. While the quality of these pocket cams leaves much to be desired, they are inexpensive and ripe for experimentation.

Would using the "macro" setting on a Zi6 or Zi8 allow for use with a 35mm adapter?

My question is why?. It just seems like that would take a whole lot of "Fiddlin' and figuring" for limited results. Those types of cameras have strengths in convenience and are developing an aesthetic of their own.

That being said though, experimentation is always good, and if you are into it, go for it. Just make sure that you post some footage for us.

BTW, [CTRL+ALT+DEL], I love your signature. That is my favorite movie. Just watched it again today. "Your mission is to proceed up the Nung River in a Navy patrol boat..."

Why?
1. I am drawn to the possibility of a small, inexpensive rig that would allow for creative placement in areas that would potentially be hazardous to a proper (pricey) unit.

2. I am a student with a painfully restrictive budget. Video is a small hobby of mine at the moment. If using an inexpensive pocket cam could introduce me to a new method of video acquisition, I would be thrilled.

3. If someone else is inspired by it or the works produced with it, then perhaps it could lead to something bigger. These tiny gadgets have grown in ability recently.

4. Going back to #2...I am just a dreamer. Dreaming is cheaper than doing for me. I just want to make sure this is at least possible in theory before spending any time/money.

It just seems like that would take a whole lot of "Fiddlin' and figuring" for limited results.

I'm fine with that! Thanks for your input.
