PNG Image Sequence exported to 655x480??

Curious if anyone else has experienced this, or know what the cause is.

My project property is set at 720x80. When I click on the clip, it's properties are 720x480. When I open the pan/zoom window, the zoom's at the full 720x480.

Yet when I export a PNG image from the project (via the script), the images are exported at 655x480.

What gives, and is it a big deal? Interestingly enough, the images don't look any different for shape/ratio.

Because DV has a PAR of .909, and therefore to export, it needs to be a square pixel. When it's reimported, Vegas reassigns the PAR of .909 to it.
720 * .909=654.48 rounded to 655. Vegas could incorrectly scale pixels vertically like some apps do, then you' have a different frame size, but it would be the correct aspect ratio still.

Yeah...whenever someone talks about exporting frames, they always say they'll be 720xsomething...but mine are always 873x480 (widescreen...which is all I shoot).

I don't let it bother me. :)

Maybe it's late, because that just went RIGHT over my head. :cheesy: But, I'll take that to mean that I can go to sleep without any fits tonight, knowing that all's okay in Vegas land, and that when I reimport these 655x480 images, they'll fit right back in with no issues.

Thanks.

Okay, now something's gone wrong in the render

Okay, now something's gone wrong in the render

So I've uprezzed a group of PNG images (655x480) using Photozoom Pro to HD 1280 wide. Did this using STRONG EDGES as well as regular S-Spline for uprezzing (original images were exported OUT of a 24P/23.976 timeline with stock footage from the DVX100a at 720x480).

Imported everything back into Vegas with no issues. Set the project settings to HDV 720P, then adjusted the timeline to 23.976 (IVTC). Then went into pan/crop on the clip and selected MATCH PROJECT ASPECT RATIO (is this stretching like normal footage does in Vegas' widescreen, or since the stuff's already 1280w, there's no stretch, only crop?).

Rendered the clip out to a HDV720 AVI file, again adjusting the settings to 23.976 FPS.

However, when I reimport this small 5+ second clip it's now LONGER than the original ... by nearl 2 seconds!!!

WHAT could I be doing wrong? The whole purpose of this is really more experimentation, seeing if when we apply our effects on the 720x1280 frames if they'll be more robust when downconverted afterwards for DVD, etc. than if we were to add FX and CC at the normal 720x480 size.

Hey Spot, I just thought of something. Should I have set the properties to a square aspect ratio BEFORE exporting those PNG images?

In addition to the "lenght/timing" issue I'm having in the post above, I looked at the original imported PNG sequence, and it still reads 655x480 with a SQUARE aspect ratio (1:1). If I change the property settings to a .909 aspect ratio, then the images look a little too tall/skinny when MATCHING PROJECT ASPECT ratio.

AUGH!! We just want to uprez our stuff to see how it would look applying the FX to a HD sized image, but running into road blocks left & right.

Export will be square. Import can be square or not. Right click the square-pixel media and set the aspect to .909. Or use Ultimate S to set all aspect to project aspect. However, if you're importing back to 1280 x 720 for 720 p, it's got to be square pixel anyway. Or, you can import, reset aspect to correct aspect on the event, and then use Pan/Crop to let Vegas resize the SAR for the 720p display.
Make sense?

Kind of, yeah. I tested it, and when importing those big 1280w images back into Vegas, if I did anything other than leave the clip properties at 1:1 (square), then it didn't look right.

So if nothing else, I'll trust my eye, but what you've said makes better sense, thanks.

The whole timeline issue, I discovered, was me simply not having the frame rate correct on the clip when I imported it ... accidentally left it at the default of 29.97 when importing, which shortened it by that percentage difference from 23.976. All good now.
