Anybody heard a reason why.
This is the go to recorder for radio and a lot of filmmakers.
Great machine have used PDM661 for years and the earlier machine PDM660.
Reliable and great quality.
Wonder if the PDM661M11 replaces it?
This a fantastic field recorder for the money!
Sad to see it go, maybe overpriced for some who didn't understand what they get compared one of those Zoom things.

The pmd661 has been around a while and was due for an update. I think you answered your own question since the Mark I is being pretty heavily discounted and the Mark II looks like it has a few nice improvements. I still have my ages old PMD670 and that's still a pretty decent recorder. Zoom's don't even compare.

Yeah, I use mine when I need something a bit more bag friendly and am operating alone or hooked up to an audio hybrid for telephone interviews. You can pick them up for really cheap on eBay these days. I even saw an Oade Brothers modified 670 that went for really cheap a little while ago.

I thought the 661-II had been out for a while.

It is one of only two pocket recorders on the market that has a digital input! (the other being the Tascam DR 100-II)
