PLYWOOD SKATER Finished

Thank you Tony, I know of the dead links and other shortcomings on my site. One more thing I have to do, since it turns out you can not trust paid work.
Yes, I have experimenting with my dolly controlled moves for some time but I am tired of being piggybacked, that's why I don't publish any more results. Sorry.

Thanks to all in the thread who posted plans and photos. I finished cutting out most of the pieces tonight. I should have everything painted and finished mid week.

I've downloaded the plans
Just one question the intenal diameter of the wheel mount holder is smaller than tne external diameter of the wheel mount how will it work?
Waiting for your reply
Anton

ya, i noticed that too, maybe those are the cut lines and you are supposed to sand down to fit...

i just used a holesaw for the holder and the wheelmount. same holesaw for both so there was some gap/play. i used some stick on velcro (the hook side) to fill the gap. works great.

Greetings from Finland!

This is my first post and here's my under construction skater dolly. I found a very nice axle, that fits much better in the bearing than the ordinary bolts.

Thanks for the good information all through this thread guys... I just read the entire thread at one time. (I'm late to the party)

I probably didn't need to see this... now I have one of these in queue. I'm not painting mine black though... clear satin Helmspar over natural sanded finish.

Good thread guys. Thanks again.

EDIT: Teddybear... I've got the printouts all taped together and I'm starting on it... once again I can't thank you enough. I'm really impressed at how well you've illustrated this concept.

I've had an idea for a while now... for a dolly that can only ride on schedule 40 pvc (4" or larger)... then you can set and level the pipes on saw horses. If you make "carriers" on the horses (which can also sit on the ground) then you can do side moves and dolly tracking (as long as the angle doesn't reveal the pipes) over any type of terrain... and since pvc is DIRT cheap (and 10' long) you'd get a lot of range of movement. The only downside is it's all straight moves... but whatever. I thought I'd put it out there. Some people may see the value in it. Since I've had all the parts to do that one for a while I should have a skater in a few days tops.

That ranks up there with one of the best demo clips I've seen in awhile! Very slick. If that's what you're doing with an old sony...are you sure you need a new cam?

Thanks to all the inspiration in this forum I finally finished my own Skater Dolly, but I did add a few extra's. I added the laser thingy, but best of all, I made it remote controlled. I'll post some pics en videos one of these days.

Also, I made custom software for it. It's basically the same as the original program, but it allows you to fill in the distance of your wheels to your measurepoint, making it universal for any homemade skater dolly.

I'm conscidering making more of these RC Skaters, would anyone be interested?

Thanks for the inspiration everyone,
René.

I'm about to build mine tom morning, I was also wondering what you guys did with the base...did anyone attach some sort of base so u can use the manfrotto plates to slide in?

I just used a simple babyplate with a little thing that attaches and provides the screw for my tripod head. I got it all at B&H. I just told them what I wanted to do and they found the stuff. This raises the camera up off the skater a bit, but I don't mind, as I just about never need it right at table level. Works great.

waaaah!

waaaah!

I just finished putting it together for the 1st time, and just realized what i could have used for the middle instead of an ordinary tripod base. I have this http://store.yahoo.com/cinemasupplies/gripexsucvac.html
and im pretty sure it would work except for the fact that i cut it normally and now don't have enough surface space for the suction cup to stick on. waaaaah  booo for me! I guess i can always screw in another surface again but that means it would be a little higher. oh well, this is just some random 3 am rambling. night all.
