PLYWOOD SKATER Finished

hey Ted, thanks for your replies. I have a few questions about v2 of your design.

What are the main differences? it looks more refined obviously, but what are the real differences? the break looks better, and the wood is a bit thinner?..

Also, what tripod head is that, it looks fairly low, which is great.

Cheers!

Eric

Eric,

The head is a slik head. I have since abandoned it and used a 501 manfrotto head on my rig.

I have also refined my wing nut brake to look like version 2.
V2 brake knobs are handles for cabinets that you can fine in home improvement store.

well, I have made all the cad files and was going to get it cut out at my Universities manufacturing lab before Christmas break, but the materials shop didn't have the right thicknesses of aluminum. Now I am home for the holidays, to the skater is put off till after christmas. I have modified the brake assembly to make it easier for me to construct out of aluminum using only a water cutter (ie only 2d cuts, no milling or anything else)

I will post some renders of my cad files here soon, and after Christmas, pictures of the actual thing. Can't wait

Plywood Skater had a date with Lady in Red

Plywood Skater had a date with Lady in Red

My Danish DoP friend, Bo Randers, dropped by the studio with his cool rig and I thought I'd test it on the Version 1 Plywood Skater and see how it handles.

After lining up the axles with the laser pointer I released the brake to start the curved shot. Conclusion, the Plywood base held up well.

Sweet! that looks great! I finally finished mine, its all aluminum and pretty, I'll have to post some pictures of it here.. That looks way sweet with the RED on it!

Is there a better version of the instructions? I was looking at the JPG and I am having a hard time reading the measurements...

Hi,
I need vector drawings of plywood skater. I emailed to teddybear using two different email adress and pm him but unfortunately he doesnt answer yet. I think he is very busy. Anyway, is there anybody who can send me vector drawings of plywood skater? (Adobe illustrator file would be great)
Thank you very much...

Milo,

Sorry for the late reply as I had to take a time out to get married.
Just got back from honeymoon and have emailed you the vector file you requested.

All the best,

Ted

PM me your email and I'll email you the vector files that you can print in 1:1 ratio.

I have both Corel and Illustrator files, just indicate which one you can use.

The plywood skater's new payload. And some new DIY stuff I'll post on a different thread in a short while.

Maxcohenn,

Nope, my carpentry people rotate also as grips, were swamped right now. I just made those for necessity and shared the plans for others to build one themselves.

If you plan on making one just PM me your email and I'll send you the vector file.

Did this shoot couple of weeks ago, decided to travel light and not bring a track dolly setup, instead used the plywood skater in all dolly shots, especially the curved moves for the food shots.

Here's the project.

I'd like to add that having a laser pointer really speeds up the set up time. Thats critical when doing food since the sauce and moisture change rapidly.

going to build one of these in the next few days. Read about half of this thread before skipping to the end.

Seems i need some 72mm wheels and bearings.

Anybody have a list of hardware needed as not to buy to much?

Also whats the most cost effective solution for a head to mount it on?

I guess i should get teh newest file, as i downloaded the early version while reading the first half of the thread. Lots of 404s on images and videos. I'd love to see some more footage.

also does anyone have a rough cost on this. I read 150 somewhere in the thread, and I'm guessing that included the head.

This is what DIY is all about! Thanks for being so free w/ sharing your work!! Btw I've been trying to get in touch w/ Teddybear...have'nt had any luck (he's probably bogged down in projects)!! Can any of you help me out w/ the vector schematics for this plywood skater?? PM Me Please...I need to see this in some sort of scale to begin construction!!

PM ME :)
