Does anyone else find it ridiculous that you have to pay extra to do things like import an mpeg file? I mean, that'd be like Adobe charging you extra if you want to open a JPEG file in photoshop... I just don't get it.
Maybe he is referring to the requirement to register codecs when you first purchase an NLE program? I think I had to do that before I could do any rendering with Vegas (or was it Pinnacle, I can't remember). Either way, I did not have to pay anything additional.
When I try to import an mpeg file it says the plug in is not registered. I guess I just assumed you had to pay for it cause I had to pay for the "plug in" to import mp3 files into sonic foundry, which is retarded given how common mp3 files are.
You have to register the Mpeg codecs because Sony has to pay a royalty to Main Concept. Rather than base that on the copies of Vegas sold, they would rather pay the royalty only for users who actually use them.
