Plugging it into the mic port of my PC

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for some advice.

I have to record a training video using screen capture from capture from camtasia and I need to record audio. I have a sennheiser ME65 and I'd like to plug it into the PC.

I have a mic port pro which is great for movies but it records at 96khz with causes camtasia to barf.

So I want to plug the mic into the mic input on the PC. Can you tell me what sort of low cost mixer I need in order to do this, or any other way of doing it.

I know I could record the audio to a seperate app and mix merge the sound together but I tried that and its just a major pain in the ass :)

Plese guys, what can I do.

There are bunches of ways to go, hard to know where to start.

If you want to actually go into the mic input, one of the 2-channel JuicedLink XLR to mini boxes would be a good way to go. I've had good success using one to feed a pro mic into a soundcard mic input. You could use a Beachtek but I personally prefer the JuicedLink since it's a true mixer.

I'd suggest using the line input on the soundcard if you have one - typical soundcards have lousy mic preamps and you should bypass them if you can. You could get a small desktop mixer such as the Mackie 402 or a Behringer Xenix 502/802. They have -10dBv "tape out" outputs for the main mix that are the right level to feed a soundcard "line in" input. A Radio Shack dual-RCA to stereo mini cable is all you need to connect them.

I've used both of these approaches and both work fine.

I'm not familiar with the MicPort Pro, but virtually every interface I've used lets you select the sample rate and bit depth, is there no driver software that you can change the setting in? I'm sure that would end up sounding better than using the soundcard's inputs.

Unfortunatly there is no driver for xp64 bit :(

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into these.
