Plug Ins

I am about to order some plugins. Once I get them what do I need to do to get them saved in my FCP Effects menu? Someone mentioned that there is a Plugins folder but I have not seen it yet.

Re: Plug Ins

-of the all the FCP plug-ins, the only ones I recommend are: Joe's Filters(should be bundled w/FCP!!)and Eureka's (for any type of project). Now, if you need a little more pizazz, get: Knoll Light Factory 2(best damn lense flares for the money and it works for AE and Photoshop!!), CGM DVE's(I think they are on version 3 right now), Virtix, and CHV Morph(the only morph plug-in for FCP).
Again, these plug-ins are ones that, a)I use in every project, and b)get best bang for your buck.
I never was really sold by the Boris stuff, but if someone could convince me. Also for keying, the there is DV Matte, which I have yet to use, since I usually do keying in Shake.

Re: Plug Ins

Wow, I forgot about those guys. I like a lot of plug-ins they offer, but they seem kinda pricey. For 300 bucks(or 700, if you plan on getting the total package), I'd invest in lights or an external drive(I am sooooo lacking in the hardware department and that is where all my money is going to right now). If you have most of the filmmaking hardware, then I guess give it a whirl. Were there any other plug-ins you were interested in?

Re: Plug Ins

Psunami and Shine both kick ass. I've been wanting to get Psunami, Shine, and Starglow for the longest time just to make a Stargate wormhole! Not sure what to think about StageTools, since you can make photo slide shows anyway just by using the motion tab in FCP

Re: Plug Ins

i own stagetools moving picture and it does a way better job than fcp can ever do. yes fcp can pan/scan and zoom in/out. the problem is it can't ease in/out at the start/ end of the move w/o going in an "s" like motion.

Re: Plug Ins

Boo are you referring to zooming with a still image? If so, how is that done in FCP? I see that effect used all the time on the news. I am sure you have to keyframe the picture to get it to move.

Re: Plug Ins

"S" motion? FCP can do more than pan/scan and zoom in/out. Still, after giving StageTools another looksee, its better than I thought it was when I first read what it was about. As someone who does FCP-picture slideshows on a regular basis, give me more pro's on StageTools-convince me to change. Not to go off subject, but just how SAD is it to go an event and still see people do picture-slideshows on POWERPOINT?! YUK!!

DVX100Shooter-
You were on the right track as to how to make a motio slideshow. What you first need to do is load your pictures into the timeline. A general rule of thumb if you're going to be doing lots of zooms in 300dpi. That will give you room to zoom without pixelization. For the actual panning and zooming, you simply need to go into the viewer's motion tab and adjust the parameters till you get it to your liking, set a keyframe, move your playhead, and do it again. You can set as many keyframes as you want, but most moves can be accomplished with only two keyframes on a clip.

You should also read this tutorial. It taught me how to do exactly what I am trying (poorly) to explain to you.

If you haven't been to Ken's site before, you'll be amazed at the wealth of information that is there. Hope this helps,

Re: Plug Ins

-shooter, dudeguy pretty much explained it. The zooming picture effect is also known as the Ken Burns effect and is filter in i-movie(I guess, because he either did it first or did it a lot first). Keyframing is basically the key to motion graphics, so I cant wait to see how Apple's Motion is going work without it. Along with Ken Stone's site, I basically learned all my FCP basics from dvcreators.net's PowerStart cd's(the best FCP beginner training period). Like dudeguy also wrote, make sure pics are at least 300 dpi. Also, try to keep keyframes to a minimum to retain "smooth" animation.
