Please suggest a camera case (soft)

I have a large pelican hard case I use, but am interested in getting a soft case for equipment restrictive environments.

Could anyone suggest a popular soft case that people prefer to use for the DVX100a?

I would like room for my DVX100a, 3 5600s batteries, 4 filters, a small tool kit, spare tapes and a few odds and ends.

I've looked around, but it's difficult to determine what is the right size from product descriptions.

Thanks!

There are several manufacturers. Check out: KATA, PETROL, CALUMET makes a few bags, Porta-Brace, Lowe Pro, 20 or more others....
Everyone is different. interior design/use of space is one issue, cost and size are others.

My biggest concern, and the main reason for the post, is buying a case that isn't large enough for the DVX100a. All the bags I've seen that look decent have been online and I'm not sure if the camcorder will fit. I hope to get a few options from people who own dvx camcorders and soft cases and decide from their suggestions.

Thanks for the post. You mentioned couple of brand names I haven't researched yet.

=)

Lowepro with the notebook pouch is under 200 and fits my DVX100b and stuff well, plus you can carry your tripod on it too.

I got a Camrade soft case for my JVC 110U. So I know that the DVX will fit in it, but it's probably too big for what you are looking to get.

Ive got a Kata MC61 and its great. I keep my FX1, laptop, lenses (both 35mm for adapter and wide angle adapter for FX1) audio gear, tapes, batteries, clapper board, clip board, shoe adapters, lanc controller, spare bits and peices etc etc and a bunch of cables.

Its got a compartment at the bottom for lenses or tapes/batteries and its got these two pencil case type things that slide into a special bit that holds cables. the inside is customizable with foam deviders that you cut and they stick in with velcro. Its a great setup, Im really pleased with it.

Kugar,

If you're looking to go the backpack route, I've got a Mountainsmith Borealis AT which holds my DVX, mic, cables, three batteries, two filters, tapes, laptop and various odds and ends. It's compact, but big enough for all these things. I added a bit of padding, but otherwise it works fine for me, and it's very comfortable to carry.

Cheers,

John

Porta-Brace

Porta-Brace

I've got a Porta-Brace that holds almost everything I need to shoot with. Not badly-priced either. Bought it from B&H.

Thanks guys!

Hey guys!

Thanks for the info. Sorry I haven't responded sooner. I was out of town working on a project. I can't wait to do some research on your suggestions!!!

Thanks again,

When it comes to cases for the dvx, I love the portabrace dv3U. I started out with a petrol bag. Nice bag, I liked the orange interior. Held everything I needed. Great price for the bag. But, I was never that comfortable carrying it by the shoulder strap. But, it was a good smaller sized bag. I splurged a few months ago on the porta brace dv3U and I'm very happy. I think any bag bigger than this will become too heavy if you're toting it around. This is the perfect size for the DVX and some added stuff. Not sure how great it would be if you have a 35mm adapter and/or rails - but for the camera, extra batteries, wireless G2s, shotgun mic and a few other odds and ends it is just right.

I've got a pelican pcs155. I use it for my hv20 with lots of accessories, but I'm sure it'd be big enough for the dvx. It's got expandable sides and has tucked-away backpack straps.
