please recap these settings

Now that I'm going from editing tutorial files in the Apple Pro Training series to real files I've shot, I'm a panicky beginner all over again. Yeow!

Could someone tell me, at the risk of repeating this a millionth time, the differences in FCP settings for 24p and 24pa? I used 24p, set FCP to DV NTSC 48kHz 24, and had to render every scene. Do I just use the basic DV NTSC 48kHz instead?

Also, what do I do if I just want to capture an entire tape and log the scenes when they're on the hard drive?

Re: please recap these settings

How did you film? If you filmed with 24p then you edit in 29.98 -- there isn't a pulldown remover for 3.2.3.2. If you filmed in 24PA then capture with advanced pulldown remover and set it up in a 24 fps sequence.

Meaning that, under audio/video settings, both sequence and capture settings should be set to the first item in the pulldown menus? DV NTSC 48K

Re: please recap these settings

No.

If you filmed in 24P then when you capture it off your tape it will ONLY come in as 30fps.  Hard to explain. You filmed 24 clicks of the CCDs per second, but somewhere inbetween there and the tape the DVX added a pulldown and it ended up on the tape as 30fps. If you shot it in 24P then the pulldown added was 3.2.3.2. You can't remove that "pulldown" from the footage. If you filmed in F5 (24pa) then it added ADVANCED pulldown 2.3.3.2 or something like that. THIS you can remove in FCP to make 23.97 frames per second. THEN you can edit in a true 24fps timeline.

You need to make sure your sequence settings are set to DV NTSC 48K and Frame Rate 29.98.

Good luck,

Re: please recap these settings

Captain,

Why "no"? If I set both sequence and capture to DV NTSC 48kHZ, the timeline shows up as 29.97 automatically.
