I think Wafian should come out with a portable hdmi solution maybe built on a shuttle pc platform that has battery power. The current Wafian solution which is a great product I believe a lower cost product could be more profitable. If they could offer portable uncompressed for under $4000 that would be awesome. Something that has 4 hours or so battery life would be amazing. 2 120gb laptop drives could give you 4 hours of video. I think compared to a firestore fs-100 which costs $2200 a $4000 (of course $3,000 would be better) uncompressed option would be ideal.
It could be a hdmi only box and that would make it alot cheaper to make. I am sure that in the future there will be more pro cameras made with hdmi outputs. It doesn't have to have a screen or anything just the basic vcr functions. Shot during the day at night capture it into your main storage.
I emailed Wafian about a similiar product an they hinted at the possibiliy of something like this but I think it needs to be place high on the checklist.
What do you think folks?
