Well first off, if that's your view I would strongly recommend hiring an audio guy with gear anyway. A good one knows what you'll need and what the best way to get it is without you needing to worry about it much.
Second, if you want to do sound yourself you need to be careful about what you buy and how to use it.
A $200 mic can sound 100 times better than a $2000 when the nicer mic is 10 ft. away on the camera and the cheap mic is 1 ft. away from the talent on a boom just out of frame.
I'm sorry, but is it really that hard to type " 1' XLR " into Amazon? Or to spend a few minutes on a search for 'shotgun' here ( or read the stickies ) and see what the usual recommendations are?
If the answer to those questions is 'Yes' then do yourself a favor and hire someone that DOES care about sound and collaborate with them.
Sorry if I'm being mean or whatever, it's been a long day, but your question comes across as "I don't care, do the work for me."
There are lots of sites (ebay comes to mind) that take Paypal and Paypal will debit your checking account directly (or you can deposit money into paypal to use). Amazon is not a good source for pro audio gear. Try Trew, or Coffey, or Gotham. I think even B&H takes Paypal now.
And, even if you don't want to do Paypal, you can probably wire transfer to any of the above.
People here are trying to give you sound advice. But they can only do so if you provide the information necessary to understand what you specific situation looks like. If you are not able or willing to form you own opinion I would suggest you go to a pro shop, take everything the guy behind the counter tells you as the word from god and hope for the best.
