Shot a movie last year, and backed it up ONCE, but need to back it up again, and MORE FEQUENTLY.

What is the best way to back up the movie, without have to copy all of the footage?

What do I need to do so I do not have to copy an entire TERABYTE each time I want to back it up?

PLEASE HELP!! Our drives are running SLOW and we're scared that we might loose 6 months of work..

Not sure what you mean. You can back up the project file but you can't really back up all the footage without backing up all of the footage. Perhaps you need to invest in some more drives?

Once the footage is digitized the only way to "back it up" is to get more drives an make clones of the data (store exact copies on more than one drive in more than one place, a true backup). That can save you time from not having to redigitize if things are lost.

Otherwise like Noah said, just backup the project file. All you have to do is burn that to a CD-R, DVD-R, external hard drive, whatever. I would certainly do that on a daily basis.

If you want to backup the cut, as is, you can output to tape at the end of each day (waste of tapes I think, but to each his own). Or you can output a Quicktime Movie each day at end of day (over write the old one) and then store that on a external hard drive or whatever.

I didnt explain correctly..
I actually figuered it out..

I have a backup of everything.. But we are still editing, so I didn't want to backup the entire drive (1 TERABYTE) each time we made any changes.

All of the imported footage is backed up on the BACKUP drive.

So that means we have the ORIGINAL and a BACKUP.

All I need to do is copy the FCP sequence/project file to the new drive (unless footage or music is added) to keep it updated.. I'm not worried about the RENDER files..
It's very nice to have the ability to take one file, and add it to the BACKUP, and have the entire movie, without having to spend over a day backing up the hardrive, risking overheating on all drives..

Does this make sense?
 
I'd also advise burning a CD-R of the project file just in case the drives fail you'll have even more of a backup.
