i filmed a video last year that the artist wants minor changes, such as: Blurring a licsence plate and compressed to at least 100mb.... here is the kicker: i had a virus and lost all files BUT have the original final draft recorded on to DVD. Am i screwed or not? thank you so much!!!! P.S. Is there any way to bring it back to life or "it is what it is" w/o the file....nick

well, you will have to do again the last bit of work between your final and your final draft -- provided that you have all the movie files and project files you need on that DVD.

Recorded to DVD in what format? AVI? Mov? XVID? Id uncompressed you are in good shape. Blurring a license of course is easy to do, at least in AE or FCP.

If it was DV AVI (though you'd only be able to fit about 20 minutes on a DVD, so maybe it's not), you're OK if all you need to do is blurring. You shouldn't take much of a generational hit, if any.

If it's a video DVD you can play in a set-top player, then you've got more problems. Sure, you can get the video and manipulate it, but it's MPEG-2, which is already highly-compressed. When you recompress after you've made the changes, you'll notice much more generational degradation.
