So I have a potential client that wants to do a couple of car video's showcasing his shops work. They are gonna be 3-4 minutes long. I've never done a car video, I have mostly done real estate videos and a few little events.

I'm not too sure on what I should charge for this. Has anyone done any of these videos and what have you charged in the past? What would be an ideal time that I would have to shoot and edit?

I'm going to be meeting with him today to discuss pricing and dates.

Here is some links to some of my work so that you guys can get a feel of the level i'm at.

Shots look pretty good, I would start at $1000 and go up from there depending on what the market will bear. Couple of pieces of unsolicited advice - when shooting cars, watch for reflections of yourself in the finish. Also, when editing, be sure to transition before your camera move stops.

Pricing is REALLY depends on your particular market. Having said that, you need to budget for equipment you own, equipment you rent, insurance, labor (for the shoot, for the edit).... Tons of variables. Worst thing in the world is to underbid and later find out that you ended up earning $4/hour for your work..... Unless of course you don't care much about what you make as much as you care about getting the experience.... But honestly, everyone is worth more than $4/hour.

So... search online for some film or video budget spreadsheets. There are a ton of them out there. If you are serious about working professionally in production, then you should work serious with your pre-production. And that all starts with a good budget. Even for small things like this.

Good luck.
