please help with computer purchase - hdv editing

ok so gonna be using the hv40 (hdv) and i dont really have the budget for a quad or mega dual core system.

just want advise on whats worked with full hd hdv editing, of course i realize encoding will be faster with a quad or powerful dual.

like anyone done it on a amd x 2 2.4 - 2.6?

will have xp pro with 3-4 gb ram.

also will be using vegas pro 8 or 9

What is your budget? Also I'd stay away from AMD as far as possible, INTEL is the way to go. Even Apple figured that out. Depending on your budget, you want the best video card, CPU, and RAM you can get. Also a motherboard will suit the package considering you would want to upgrade in the future (one that supports 12GB of ram for example, that way you can only get 4GB now but can always upgrade) ...
