Hi everyone,

My friends and I have just finished our gonzo movie, FRENCHIE THE CLOWN. It will be premiering on Saturday, July 22nd at the Anthology Film Archives (NYC) at 11:30pm.

We have the choices of screening on Mini DV, Beta SP or a 24p DVD.

We shot with the DVX100A and shot at 24P(Advanced) setting and have been editing on a 23.98 timeline.

What are the best final outputs (with the exception of a film transfer)? And what are the best methods to reach that goal?

We are using Final Cut Pro 5.1 on an Intel Mac

Thanks you in advance for all your help. i love the people on this site!

If you are going to tape you need to set your RT settings in the timeline to add back the 3.2 pulldown cadence. If you are going to DVD then you can keep it 24p, but risk having it look like bum if you don't compress it just right.

So -- tape at 29.97 with a pulldown cadence added or high compressed DVD that MAY look ok if you work really hard on it.

Your choice.

Hi if you decide to go DVD make sure you play it out on a deck that has componet out puts this will help the overall quality espeacially the skin tones. And depending on the bit count you should use PCM audio for better sound quality. This is a normal setup in Compressor. Good luck

So from the sound of it we'll try to stick with Beta!
Thanks for all your responses...unfortunately there are no component connections (which sucks) but we'll make do. It's unfortunate because the colors in this movie are stunning and it would be a sahme to see them sapped on the screen.

If anyone else has some more input, I'd appreciate it!

Is there an extra cost for you to go to Beta? If so and it was originally shot to minidv I would do what Cpt said as you have that option.
