Please Help - Tascam HD-P2 Timecode Settings

Hello,
I've searched all over the internet for an answer on this one. I want to set up the Tascam HD-P2 to record time of day, free run timecode. I want it to be synced up with a video camera that has the same free runnning timecode. The Tascam should be running timecode on the counter when it is both in monitor mode without recording and while recording. This seems like the only logical way to sync up the unit to a camera other than clapping a slate in front of each shot - an uneseccary hassle.

If anyone knows how to activate this in this settings menu on the unit, please let me know how to do it. I really appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Gabe,

I tried a few things on my HD-P2 and couldn't seem to get it to do what you want. I always run mine with a TC slate as the TC source and jam sync it. What camera are you using? Does it have a TC out option? If so, just jam the recorder from the camera.

Have you called Tascam support? They are actually pretty good.

Thanks, I will try calling Tascam and see if they know of a way. With the type of shooting that I will be doing, it would be incovienent to be connected to the Tascam from the camera. I am using a shoulder mount camera that has genlock control. Other than a video reference, I don't think anything can be sent from this camera. There also isn't a enough time to slate every shot during the shoot. I was hoping that the free run mode existed. If it isn't possible, maybe I can get Tascam to include this feature in a firmware update.

Thank you,
Gabe

Gabe,

There may be a way to do a wireless link (using comteks) to send signal from the camera to the Tascam, though I've never tried it.
