Please help put this in perspective

I will be applying for film school in the next week or so here, and one of the requirements is as follows:

"Provide a 1-page (maximum) synopsis of a film project that you are passionate about making. Provide the film genre and utilize references to other movies to explain how you would make the film. Explain the concept, vision or idea. In addition, provide a 1-page (maximum) outline of the story."

Is a synopsis not an outline of the story? So on the first page, would I simply include the name, the genre, and references to other movies? Then the second page, outline the story? If so, on the first page, how do I explain the concept? If you could sort of clarify this for me that would be great. I get it, I'm just not 100% certain.

Sorry for the noobieness.

Synopsis is a few lines about your film.

Outline is explaining the film in detail, but not in script format.

So the first page would be a few lines, or maybe just one or two lines about your film. then you explain everything else they want. Then on the next page you go into detail about your film for the outline.

For me a synopsis has always been a short explanation of the film where you first present your character(s), and outline the different problems that will arise in his/her path to achive her/his ultimate goal. You would also explain how it ends. Usually 2-5 pages are used. I was told this at university, but that may be how it is done in Spain and not in the US.

^ I was taught that by more than one teacher. Also an outline for a story is just like an outline for an essay. Outline means you outline your story, you break it down, maybe into beats or a scene per paragraph. As detailed or not as you want.

Synopsis is a short explanation of your story. Like what you see at the back of a DVD.
