I've been asking this question on the Apple forums, but haven't really got anywhere yet so thought I asked some DVXperts instead.
I have some footage of a pan which was shot in 25p mode on my DVX100a. When I export it to MPEG 2 (either using Compressor, QuickTime Pro or DVDSP) and play it in QuickTime or through the Apple DVD Player, the footage shakes during the pan, as though I had a crazy trembling illness when I was shooting it. If I play it in VLC player or burn it to DVD and play on my television, the footage is smooth.
Some people have suggested that I need to deinterlace because my tv and VLC player would be doing this for me, but QuickTime wouldn't, so that's where the problem is. But if I shot in progressive, do I really need to deinterlace? And if I do need to deinterlace....how do I do it? I noticed a filter in FCP called 'deinterlace', but it made the footage look like it was shot through horizontal blinds, so I'm guessing that's not it.
Btw, I have tried various different settings in my MPEG 2 exports, including having the field dominance on 'bottom first', 'progressive' and 'auto'. None of them seem to make a difference.
I'm getting to the end of my wits here, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
