Please help: Osx video capture utility !

Because FCP has problems capturing video with irregular timecode or with blank spaces between recorded video.

So will most other programs. Take care not to have irregular timecode and NO gaps between video.

And be aware that most captures done with Quicktime won't work in FCP...God knows why.

Well... I think they are .dv captures when you do the 'raw format' captures in QT Pro. Just batch them to DV/NTSC etc.

The problem is that I HAVE almost 15 tapes to capture with irregular timecode and blank spaces.

I don't know why with PC software (for istance SCENALYZER) I have NO problems at all.

:undecided

Just use final cut pro in non-controllable deck mode. Set non-controllable deck for device control, firewire ntsc input, manually hit play on your deck until you see video in the capture window, then hit capture now.

I don't know why but capturing in the way you suggest something "weird" happens: I have all the footage on the HD but importing in FCP I can see only the pictures until the first stop/start of the timecode.

???

I will try capturing with Quicktime.....

I think you should make a digital clone of your tape if you can. Link two firewire cameras together with a 4-pin to 4-pin cable and transfer your footage to a new tape. The quality will be identical, but in the process the new tape will be striped with new unbroken timecode. You can then capture normally.

Ok...

Tell us about your setup!!!

What mac?
How are you capturing?
Is your scratch disk set to your SYSTEM DRIVE? (It should NEVER be)
What are your capture settings?

Something's not right - you shouldn't have any problems.

His problem is his tape is bad to begin with, so he should fix that first.

Well it is obvious that his tape is screwed up, and making a copy of it will help, but I don't think that is the root of the issue. Capturing even with control OFF shouldn't get results as described.

I'd still like to know how this OP is thinking about workflow.

My problem is that I have to capture the 15 tapes and for every change of the timecode (every new take) I want to create a new file.

But If I disable the deck control in FCP, I will have only one big file for every tape and then to divide all the takes will be real a mess.

I hope you can understan my poor english...... :)

In the end....... I have to capture 15 tapes of digital video with a lot of timecode breaks, but I have to to this and I need to have a single file for every take.

Can you help me ???

Thanks

:)

Your English is fine.

Its been a while since I've worked with SD, however, I believe that if your able to capture the tape in its entirety, with Capture Now for example. you can go into the "Mark" menu and there's should be an option for DV Start/stop detect [or something like that and it will break your contiguous clip into new clips ate each start and stop of the timecode.

I'm a bit rusty on this but I seem to recall that this is possible.

Having tried the demo of Live Capture Plus, it's actually great for things like this, time code breaks, etc, but seems to be a little buggy. Don't use other apps while it's running. That's just my experience...
