When I went to capture some footage from the A1 today, the computer wouldn't recognize the camera. Turn off the camera, took the firewire out and put it back in a few times, turn the camera on, still doesn't work. Then I look at the firewire connector and discovered that the contact is BROKEN. Somehow it's become dislodged and the little pins are broken, can't even insert the firewire now.
Obviously this sucks, and I shudder to think of the cost in money and time even though the camera is still under warranty. Problem is that I got several paying gigs coming up within a month and I can't afford to be without the camera. But I can't capture anything from it either. I'm shooting normal SD but for some reason tapes shot on this camera cannot be read unless it's a Canon camera, so I can't just get any old mini-DV cam.
I got 4 hours of footage that need to be captured now and another six to eight hours of stuff that need to be capture next week. If anyone in the Berkeley area has a HV10 or an HV20 and are willing to spare a few hours with me this weekend and next weekend to help capture these tapes I would really appreciate it. I'll compensate you a small amount ($50) because that's all I can afford, but this would be a tremendous favor to a fellow DVXuser. Thanks!
