PLEASE HELP! importing from illustrator

i made a drawing in adobe illustrator and have imported it as a .pict file to fcp. it looks great in the viewer when i double click it from the bin. but when i put it on the timeline, and double click it, it looks horrible - blurred, jagged and broken up - in both the viewer and the canvas. when i render it (green line,) it looks even worse.

i have also tried importing it as a jpeg, tiff, and targa, all having the same results.

the drawing had two layers in illustrator - the line art (in white) and the black fill behind it.

please tell me i am doing something wrong - and please tell me the right way to do it.
i spent 10 hrs on this drawing and i really want to use it in this project.

thanks

carl

Check to see that you are working in RGB color space and not CMYK .. this is what it sounds like your problem is.

hey redcap,

any chance i could email you my illustrator file and you could take a look at it to see if anything is wrong with it...maybe even import it into fcp on your end to see what it looks like?

if I were you I'd open the illustrator file in photoshop and then export it from there as a flattened PSD file without any layers and double check the color space. This should work.

well thanks for the try, redcap. i tried opening it up in photoshop but didn't see any of those options.

if anyone is willing to take a look at my file, PLEASE let me kmow, and i'll send it to you pronto!

You could just take a screenshot of your image by using command (the one with the apple and flower on it) shift + 4, which should give you a cross hairs and select the portion of the screen that you would like to take a picture of. The file will be saved to the desktop and you can import it into FCP that way. You may want to make sure to not select any unnessary screen space into your shot - and be zoomed in (at 100 %) and have the file the size you would like to see it as on screen.

thanks redcap...that's what i ended up doing.

I took a screen shot of the original illustrator picture, imported that, put it on the timeline, then made a freeze-frame and put it on the timeline. worked very well.

thanks everyone for your suggestions.
