Please Help! DVX100B 24P Capture and Sequence settings in FCP

Please help! I am having some interlacing issues with footage shot on my DVX100B. Here's the skinny:

- The footage was shot on the DVX100B in the standard 24P setting (not PA)
- The miniDV tapes were captured in FCP with the following settings:
Vid Rate - 29.97fps
Frame Size - 720 x 480
Compressor - DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
Pixel Aspect - NTSC - CCIR 601
Field Dominance - Lower (Even)

- I then edited the footage in a FCP (7.0.3) timeline with the following sequence settings:
Frame Size - 720 x 480 NTSC DV (3:2)
Pixel Aspect - NTSC - CCIR 601/DV
Field Dominace - Lower (Even)
Editing Timebase - 29.97fps
Quicktime Video Settings - DV/DVCPRO - NTSC

My footage looks nice in FCP, however when I burn to DVD it appears stretched, and has interlacing issues in areas where there is movement.

My ultimate goal is to burn my project to a DVD. I sent the footage to Compressor and used the Best 90 minute DVD codec to get a M2V and AC3 file. I then took these into DVD Studio Pro to burn the DVD.

I have a suspicion that I am using the wrong codec ... but I am unsure. Maybe I have a problem with my sequence or capture settings? At any rate, I am looking for the best workflow to get the highest quality DVD. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

24p to 24p

24p to 24p

Jillian,

Do you still have the original tapes to recapture the footage? (Might be a good idea)

Are you looking to export your footage for native 24p DVD? (DVDs can be set to 23.98fps - 24p or 29.97fps)

I'm fairly new to this myself, but I am pretty sure that you are going to want to edit on a 24p timeline (23.98) and NOT on a 29.97 timeline.

Just changing your timeline (sequence) settings from 29.97 to 23.98 may solve your problem.

Hope this helps!

24p on that camera is 60i footage with a 24p "effect" applied. Stick with the NTSC-DV 60i 48kHz presets across the board for capture, sequence, export, etc. It's not true 24p, you won't get 24p out of it without issues.

Send To Compressor and use a DVD preset folder "Best" and a time length that your project will fit in to. That preset will conform to your frame rate and interlace settings.

You won't get any better quality than that.
