Please help... and $%&@# premiere!

Hey gang, here's my problem:

I have Premiere Pro CS3 as part of the Master Collection.

I am running Vista Ultimate on a new Dell XPS M1530 with a 2.4ghz dual core, an Nvidia 128 dedicated video card and 2gb memory. Premiere runs OK on it (lots of crashes, but I guess that's typical.)

(Of course) I have a deadline on Thursday for a rough edit of a job I shot for a corporate client last month. Out of a 1:00 timeline, I have tried twice to render the first 30 minutes to an AVI at 320x240. Each time, after about a 6 hour render, Premiere gets to 99.94 percent completion, with 10 seconds left before finishing, and then CRASHES. So close, yet so far away. Hot Damn, it's mighty irritating. (The first attempt was rendering to QuickTime, btw.)

I've searched the forum, searched google, adobe... nothing that I can find is relevant. Does anyone know why this is happening, or what I can do? If I can't figure it out I am going to have to pull 2 straight all-nighters and edit in Vegas from scratch.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

Jerry

"lots of crashes" is not typical so thats another matter for you to sort out with your PC and hardware.

The current issue: What is the project setting and how/why are you rendering to 50% avi ?

What is the end result required? ie size, purpose, delivery...

I suggest you Export Movie at Project Setting eg 640x480 and Encode that to whatever is required or do a Media Encoder "export" direct from the timeline.

I'm rendering to that size because I need to either stream the file or email it to the client using a large file emailing service. The file size at full res will be enormous. I will try exporting at 100% size and see if that works... but with 5-6 hour rendering times, I'm running out of options to try. Thanks for your suggestion.

Rendering at native size (ie size of the project and material setting) is faster than rendering to something else where the computer has to do the math.

I suggested this because it gives you a "sub master" of the project at ntive res etc.

This sub can then be encoded using Media Encoder or QT Pro or whatever.

If you are rendering a timeline each time you try something it is slower.
