Hey,

My first shoot on Wednesday. I have a lot to learn with audio. I know the ntg3 isn't the ideal for shooting indoors. I recorded into h4n. Mixers definitely next up on the agenda.

Tell me what you think.

Also, I have some other footage that has a darn leaf blower in the background. Does anyone of a good way to get rid of that in soundbooth. Low cut filter?

Thanks for any advice. Just trying to get better at it.

Ahh, the stories I can tell about landscaping companies waiting to hear the word "action" before firing up the leaf blowers, weed wackers, and anything else in the arsenal which has the ability to ruin a take....
The leaf blower will tend to be fairly high in the spectrum, above where you would typically use a low-cut. Actually, it fricking lives right in the voice band of the spectrum. You may have some success using Izotope RX. That's the only tool I've been able to use with success in cleaning noise out of the voice area of the spectrum, and even then, less is more, and it's very easy to suck all the clarity out of the dialog in an attempt to hide the noise. Could be worse, you could be trying to record dialog in a meeting room at a hotel with a companies christmas party going on next door, complete with DJ and subwoofers, but that's another story. Keep at it. The more you do, the better you will get, and the NTG-3 and H4 will deliver quite acceptable sound for indie work. It's all in the wrist....
