Please Critique My New Website

looks pretty clean and static, i've seen much flashier wedding sites with a more attractive design and warmer colors - especially some of the templates that are out there, but yours is not bad, gets straight to the point. would be nice to see some kind of photo gallery from any work you've done on past weddings and/or possibly a sample of video or some kind of reel to give people a taste of the quality you can put out. you look really young, so i'd think samples of your work would counter any doubts about your ability if that became a concern for a couple considering your services. after all, these are their memories, there's only one shot at getting it right so they need to be excited about using you.

good luck!

I'd be rasterising that logo at the top (make it into an image), try to avoid using fonts which can't be guaranteed to be installed on the system of every user.

+1 The logo does not even appear when I look at the site

Also I would cut down the personal photos. Just one will do, and I would call your self anything but president.

Please don't take this the wrong way but you look incredibly young. That is not a bad thing unless a father-of-the-bride comes to the site and says who is this young kid he can't shoot your wedding. Your reel will settle the question. You have to get some videos on your site.

Good Luck

I also suggest for the Packages page to add some type of Add to Cart system either with Paypal or Google Checkout, even a consultation request form so potential clients don't get bogged down with a 'mail-to' email. You need to have a way for the client to interact with you in the easiest, fastest way possible while they are still on your site. Otherwise they can easily forget and that's one less lead you have.

didnt know that was a logo at the top. it's in a serif font on my system and doesnt look like any of the pics posted above. perhaps consider a better logo if possible. remember, this is the brand of your company. give it your best shot and compare it to what's out there - company's more successful and popular than yours and try to get the same quality - or pay someone else to do it who knows how.

The key thing missing for me was the demo reel. If I'm hiring a photographer I want to see his pictures, if I hiring a filmmaker I want to see his films. I'd lose the pictures on the front page and put your demo reel there. Once they see how amazing your videos look they will be ready to dig into the packages.

I thought your pictures on the packages page weren't very strong... show images that are relevant to the various packages. I like how you displayed the prices so they get to see how much money they are saving.

On the ABOUT US page... put some the amazing things that others have said about your work. It shows that others have been happy with you and its way more convincing when someone besides yourself says that you are awesome.

Forever Moments is a great name... find an artist that can design a logo or look for it that will do it justice. You'll be able to use it on your website your letterhead and cards... you're being hired to be creative and artistic... your company name should reflect that too.

I started doing wedding videography this year, before this I've been doing some corporate work. I have done around 20 or more weddings this year, most of which included me shooting and editing solo. However, I did these for another company and therefore can't use them - so I have experience but no videos that I can use for demo at the moment. What do you propose I do?

One idea I had is to create a video interview introducing me and some of the other people involved in a friendly manner that will be appealing to potential clients.

On that note - how do you recommend I get into this market? Like I said - I have the experience now but I need to figure out how to get the first few clients so I can get the business going. How do you recommend going about doing that?

Thanks for your replies.

do you have an agreement signed forbidding you from using the footage you shot for the other companies? that's interesting. if you don't have anything else then it looks like you'll be starting from scratch. instead of doing a video about yourself, maybe do an interview or shoot some footage of a couple planning on getting married. if i was a client i would be more interested in seeing what you can do versus hearing about what you can do if you're hired. there's already two or three pictures of you on the site already we dont need a video of you in addition to that.

i know one guy who shot a short 3 or 4 minute story of how an engaged couple first met. he had them renact the scenario while they narrated as a voice over. it looked pretty cool. it was shot in half a day with minimal locations (a park, restaurant, etc). he put it on their dvd with the rest of their weeding footage as a separate section. maybe do something like that for free (or pay if you know of some clients) to get the ball rolling and get SOMETHING on the site. you'll think of something, but you definitely need some video footage up there so they can be wowed by your skills and break out their wallets.

Okay so I'm working on a completely new version of the site now - a total redesign. I should be done today or tomorrow. I've taken into account your suggestions - thank you for them! I put a video spot in on the new design and what I'm going to do initially is do a combo of the interview with footage from weddings. I've shot a few weddings for friends that I can use to intercut with the interview footage. When I get a same day edit done that is current I will use that as a replacement. Thanks for your suggestions!

Okay it's up - please take a look forevermomentsvideography.com. Ignore the current video, it's a temporary placeholder for a few days until I get the permanent one uploaded. Thank you all for your feedback!

When you slashed the price and used the red text it is hard to read. If I were you I would approach a wedding videographer and offer to work for them for free if you can use the footage for yourself. In exchange they would be able to use the footage too. The point is to have footage you shot. Looks like you have a SONY NXCAM so that's good low light gear to be using.

Okay I changed the design to white but kept the same elements. See what you think. Thanks for the feedback! I also was able to find a few weddings I have shot for family and friends that I can use in my video that I'll be doing this week.

i dont care for the white/design wallpaper background. too distracting in contrast to the important content on the page. i would think simple and toned down to force peoples eyes to go to the video/photos and info instead of the outer edges. im on a 30" display though so maybe on a laptop your not seeing as much as i am?

honestly without some legit video to show that youve done i wouldnt even publish the site yet. its just waaaaay to weird to have nothing to show. it clearly makes you look like you are @ square one and the fact that you look so young with nothing to show stresses it even more. even 2 minutes of clips from a quick wedding you shoot (maybe for free if needed) would be the best thing you could do for your business.

get that video bro!!! good luck to you!

Your background sort of reminds me of this, but I think the mono-chromatic pink looks better than they gray on white. Also, the rainbow colored logo and horizontal rule doesn't really work for me. I'd think to choose a color or 2 for the theme and use different variations of those (including the background design).
