Please check my configuration to built a PC & to run APPro CS5

Hi

I have started prepare a list of items to built a PC mainly to run the APPro CS5. as mentioned below.

I would appreciate if you could advice any short comings or comment on my configuration before I start buying stuff to built a new PC for myself. If you know any particular Brand or Model Number you know working very well in the sytems, please do mention those ones also.

The Systems is as follows:

RAM: 24GB DDR3 1600MHz

OPTICAL Drives: 16X max SATA DVD+/-RW with Dual Layer Write Capabilities + 6X Blue Ray Writable Disc drive

Video Card: 1.5GB NVIDIA QUADRO FX 3800

HDD: 256GB SSD Drive (for OS & Applications) + RAID 5 array system with 5 x 1 TB HDD with Hardware RAID Controller

FireWire IEEE 1394 port for DV & HDV capture

19-in-1 Hi-Speed Media Card Reader

Express card reader Slot (for Sony SXS Pro Memory Cards) - 54mm Express Card slot

You most likely don't need Windows 7 Ultimate (look at the features of different Windows versions and see if you need them). Otherwise it mostly looks reasonable for a CS5 workflow.

Personally I wouldn't go for those monitors, for the price they're not all that great. I've got by just fine with HP monitors, which are generally cheaper than Dell and have very good image quality. The 3800 seems to have one DVI output and 2 HDMI, so you'll the right cables but the card will run two monitors.

On the motherboard, I've heard good things about that one too but when I got mine it was faulty. The USB sockets didn't work and neither did one of the fan pins, so I can't personally say if it's good or not. But motherboards aren't important unless you're intending to overclock your processor, in which case you'll want to spend your money on a CPU cooler, anyway. Kodjo makes a good point, though - I don't think you'll have enough space for all of your cards on that motherboard.

If you're buying a USB3 motherboard, it's most likely going to have SATA-3 as well - so make sure you get SATA-3 drives to make the most of the speed benefit.

The X-Fi is a good sound card, I guess. Personally, I use Creative T40 Series 2 speakers and I can't hear the difference between it an onboard sound. But, if you need the inputs - it's the best you can get in that price range.

I'm confused by the Express Card slot though.

Thx for ur kind comments on the system.
Xpres card slot is mainly for Memory card used in Sony PMW EX1 professional video camera. In some Sony Vaio laptops , there is already that slot is available..

No, I mean - is this a desktop PC or a laptop? The 54mm Express Card is a laptop expansion slot, you won't get it on a desktop.
 
Some areas where you can safe money:

Use the i7 920 and oc it.
Buy the Nvidia 285 now and the 480 later. It will have more power than the FX3800.
