Please be gentle... AT897 - indoor use?

Hello, just looking for advice from people who've used the AUDIO TECHNICA AT897 indoors. It's in my price range, and from what I've read here, people seem to prefer it to the ME66 [too cold/mechanical sounding?] and the Oktava mk012 [too difficult to use/too sensitive to wind?].

1) Is the AT897 suitable for shooting in interiors? Exteriors?

2) Have you gotten sound from this mic that you were happy with?

Sorry for bringing up another version of the "good cheap mic" issue again. Have mercy.

I have an AT897. Don't be ashamed of it. :)

It's a good mic for the price. I've had no complains with it. There are better mics, sure, but they're considerably more expensive.

To date I've only used my 897 indoors, but I have an outdoor shoot planned for June or July and I'm going to see what the mic can do outdoors. As far as sound quality I've been very pleased with the results. It has a very workable pick up.

Hope that helps.

I have tested AT897 in a small room, and it performed very nicely(the room was well padded), almost as good as my at4073a. I recommend it but I have only used it once, but my impression was very good.

The AT897 is better outside than in. It also depends on what the interior is like (echos/hard walls, floors etc). If it's a small space, bring lots of blankets for use with the AT897. As a general rule the Oktava (cardioid) would be better indoors and the AT better outdoors. It really come down to the shooting space.

HTH, Chris
