Please allow me to vent...

I have a pet peeve.

I work from home and my work phone just rang.

I answered it. It was probably a wrong number, telemarketer, or a bill collector for the last person who owned this number because I get an automated voice that says, "hello, we want to speak to you, please hold on the line"....thinking this might be a bill collector, I figured I'd stick around to let them know they've got the wrong guy so they can take me off their list, but another minutes goes by and again, "hello, we want to speak to you, please hold on the line"....this just infuriated me. So, I hung the F up.

Now, its bad enough when I have to call a place, a retailer, the cable company, Sprint, etc and I have to be put on hold because of crap customer service...because most companies are more worried about the bottom line and answering to their stockholders than just having more people work the phones...but these idiots, whomever they are, has the nerve to call me, interrupt my day, not tell me who they are or why they are calling yet they give me an automated message and expect me to sit their patiently and wait on the phone for THEM!!!!!!!?????!!!!!???

Get THE F OUTTA HERE! Man that peeves me.

Thanks for listening. Have a nice day.
Rick

I actually had one call me one time and when I answered it was an automated message that told me to call the following number, and then proceeded to give me an 800 number to call

It's really bad news, as you now have no recourse to complain, as it's just a recording.
I must say that the "Do-Not-Call" list implemented here in Pennsylvania was a blessing, as the calls went from about 10/day to ZERO.
It had gotten THAT bad a few years back, I could not help myself and had to get some enjoyment out of the calls. Now, listening back to these recordings years later, it sounds VERY HARSH, considering they were only doing their job, and I wouldn't do this anymore nowadays; but if I remember that we had at LEAST 4 calls during dinner time EVERY day, the frustration just got the better of me.
Once I answered the phone it was easy to spot the telemarketer, as they never could pronounce my name....

That's hilarious Vidled. Hilarious.

I don't think it's harsh either. If they call you at dinnertime they need to expect some mischief.

Thanks!

Yeah, I have more, but I need to find the hard drive they are on! :)
There was this one...how did it go again?...ah yes: they wanted to sell me some insurance or something for when my house got broken into. They were to give me $200 bucks each time the house got broken into....I soon realized that this might be a good money-making scheme if I broke into my own home...interestingly enough, the telemarketer thought so too!! :)

About the harsh thing: it's more to do with how the calls disappeared COMPLETELY now, so I'm of a completely different mindset these days. At the time, though, it was VERY annpoying...well, until I found this way of entertainment, the I started looking forward to a call! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
But, I do agree about the "they called me" statement, as actually I find the prank calls, where the prankster CALLS someone quite rude and obnoxious!

Vidled - That was absolutely brilliant. "I'm going to note your account because you're not being serious." Oh Nooooo, Vidled. She put it on your permanent record. You might not ever be able to buy a home or run for public office.

After she asked you the income questions you should have gone back to the "gold" joke again. "But if the Gold Card is real gold I can sell it and have more income." :)

rlm - I couldn't agree more. An automated dialer calls us at home and asks us to wait, and we're suppose to act like we're holding for something important. "Maybe the President has something he wants to say to me." That's the rudest thing a business can do on the phone. Call you and place you on hold. Jerks.

Awesome, vidled. FAR from harsh - there are plenty of ways for people to make money and if they choose to annoy the hell out of people for a living, then I think your prank is a very small price for them to pay. I hope you can find the others; look forward to hearing them.

outstanding! Good for you..."I live in a box" The amazing thing is that the call lasted as long as it did. The caller's reaction? :kali: :badputer:

Hehe,
I think if you listen carefully, once I reveal I only make $4000/year she uses the BACKSPACE button to erase whatever she had just typed. And she doesn't enter any more information after that. I guess she figures by that point that I'm undeserving of her credit card! :)

And no, ChuckS, not Aussie: I did live in NZ for a few years though.

Pretty funny.

I suggest trying to work telemarketing on the other end and you'll see the flipside. I did it for a day, made one sale and never went back. It's a mingy job for sure. I would have actually liked to get a customer like you because my boss at the time, who circled the room like a shark, was extra pleased if you got through your questions and spiel before the caller hung up. The most talkative are the old people who just want someone to talk too.

There's a show up here with J.R Digs where he tries to get the telemarketers to stay on the line and he times it. Recently he go a newspaper telemarketer to spend 40 odd minutes on the phone, mainly by misinterpreting the cost of a paper "Do you mean I have to times $1 by 365 and divide by the cost of a 1/2 paper on Sunday" ?

Funny stuff. I could tell she lost interest when you said income $4000 - just like on a date with a gold digga' ...

Keep them comin'.

Cheers.

Good stuff vidled.

It reminds me of the Touchtone Terrorists and Jim Florentine's "Terrorizing Telemarketers" .

Those freaks will put-up with just about anything before they crack. I'm surprised she had so much attitude right out of the gate.
