I have begun filming a documentary educational feature and I was wondering what is the lenght of the documentary for submission to documenatry film festivals?

I know this may be a lame question .. But I do not know the answer

Thanks

Every festival is different. Have you researched the festival guidelines you are interested in? That would be my first step. They will spell it out for you. If not, they have contact numbers. I can only assume a 70-120 minute doc would fit into most feature film festivals. But again, check with the festival.

dvmichelle,
you could always edit it together to make a coherent, good film, regardless of length.
If it ends up being 45 minutes, fine. If it's 30, fine, if it's 75, so be it.
Edit it first the way to make it the best film you can make. If you need to shrink it afterwards to fit broadcast or festival submission, you should cross that bridge when you come to it.

Unless it is truly an educational doc, then do what you feel is right for the story, but if there is any network potential, do 46:00min cut down from 52:00min, and give that bad boy to a distributor, you never know you may be able to make money off of it.

One hours sell better then Half hours (22:30 for North America)
