Pleasantville effect

Wasn't sure where to post this, but I figured it could be done in FCPro. You know the super trendy effect of something/someone only in color, with the rest of the frame in B&W? How do THEY do this? And can it be done in FCPro?

If you have something of specific color you can set up the 3-way color corrector.
Twirl down the lower left triangle in the visual view and adjust settings to only affect a given color.
Most of the work done in Pleasantville was rotoscoped. Tough to do in FCP sicne it has only an 8 point matte taht very difficult to keyframe.
Commotion or other tool is best for rotoscoping.

If you have some skill, I have been able to do an effect similar to the "pleasantville" effect with rotoscoping and matte keyframing in AE. Took me alot of time since either the subject was moving or the camera was moving. I had to basically keyframe each frame, but the results were worth it.

While in the Apple Store (London) they were doing a demonstration of FCP and one of the things they did was pick the colour of the t-shirt of a man skating then made all the of the rest of the film black and white.

I remember how easy it seemed although I can't now remember the full proceedure... if your anywhere near an Apple Store might be worth popping into ask.

Indy....
