Playing out 16:9 to 4:3

I'm shooting a project in 16:9 1080iHD and need to put together a pitch for clients and deliver it in 4:3 SD.
The product needs to be delivered without letter box and in standard def.
Some of the footage to be shot will be done to "protect" for 4:3.
What's the protocol in FCP??
Also... Is there a "pan and scan" drop-on to correct some of the footage if needed?
Thanks.

If you create a new 4:3 sequence (we'll call it Sequence A) in your project, and drop the final edited sequence (Sequence B) into sequence a, you can adjust the overall scale of the sequence b to fill the frame. To "pan and scan" you can just keyframe the "center" attribute of sequence b.

No. It doesn't require any more exporting than you would have normally. Make a new sequence like Timmy D said and change the size to 720x480 square pixels and drop the HD composition in the SD timeline and scale it down to fill whatever space you need. And then, as Timmy D said, pan and scan using keyframes. Then you will only be exporting once- for your final product. Dropping a sequence into another timeline doesn't require exporting. Yes, it will need to be rendered, but that's the nature of the beast. You and your clients must know that scaling down from HD has it's benefits (better overall picture quality versus shooting in DV) but has a loss in resolution and available pixels for your final export. It's just the way it is.

Scaling down to SD is going to loose quality anyway so don't fret over trivial exporting and rendering when scaling down. Just do it as little as possible.
