Playing HD Video in Powerpoint 2007?

I have created a HD movie clip of 3 minutes from footage shot with Panasonic AG-HVX200A. I edited in the same codec and settings as the 1080Progressive 25 frames per second setting of the footage. I am in Europe, home of PAL and 50 frames interlaced video, all that stuff.

Sent to Compressor from Final Cut Pro 7 first as PRO RES HQ 1440 X 1080 25 frames and it is 3.53 Gigs in size as a MOV.

Now I have to find a way to cut it down for importing into a Powerpoint 2007 presentation. One of the problems is that while I am on a Mac with all kinds of codecs at my disposal I am told that the presentation will be transferred to some corporate Windows machine, probably with XP Pro or Vista OS.

I need to downsize this MOV while keeping the 16 X 9 aspect ratio, ensure that it is as clean and crisp as possible while playing in full screen mode going out to a Presentation room video projector from a Windows computer whose processor speed I don't know and memory, etc, and I don't know what video codecs it will have loaded.

I am doing my best to ensure that it WORKS so I have also used Compressor to encode a MPEG-2 version for import to Powerpoint.

But, there has to be more to this than that.

To those of you who have worked in a similar situation can you help me make the best possible choice between file size, and downsizing from 1440 X 1080 to the best choice for a Powerpoint presentation probably done in SD format aspect ratio?

And will using Compressor standard MPEG-2 Program Stream use a codec that Windows will probably play standard?

Thanks for all informed replies!

I had to do this at work last year. Although I did not insert the footage into the actual Power point presentation I had to convert to an AVI file in standard aspect ratio and they inserted it. It did not look that great but that is the format they requested. don't know if that helped. the clip I shot was 12 minutes long.

I would not use Quicktime as it is not a good delivery Format.

To be safe, use Windows Media. This is what I do for all of my clients needing video in a powerpoint. It plays across all versions of windows (2000 or greater) and requires little CPU for smooth playback.

If you want higher quality, you can use h.264 in a .mp4 container but ONLY if the client is going to use it on windows 7. Otherwise you're going to have an angry client when they can't play the video back.
