Playback Monitor using video size? Windowboxing?

Is there a way to get my Full Screen Digital Cinema Desktop to display at the proper resolution of the video rather than the monitor resolution? I am editing in 720p on a 1080p (equiv) display, and its upscaling everything. I would like to view things at 1280x720 (window boxing) so I know how my graphics, etc, are displaying. (I am using presenter slides that have compressed raster graphics at varying resolutions, and I would like a more realistic picture of when the compression becomes noticeable.)

Ben my second monitor is a 27 inch Acer (LED) I use the 1080p HDMI input derived from the thunderbolt o/p on my iMac.

Display settings for the second display are set to 1080p

Yeah nut if I set the monitor resolution to 720 in the system preferences I am still getting upscaled 720p, not window boxed.
